New booking tool for yoga classes Sampoorna Yoga Studio

The studio where I’ve been teaching for many years, Sampoorna Yoga Studio, in Brussels, has recently moved to a new booking tool. It’s very user-friendly & also budget friendly for the studio, which is particularly important in these difficult times where the studio’s doors are still closed & classes only take place online.

I warmly recommend taking a class with one of my fellow teachers or myself. Book your next online class here.

You can register via the schedule on our website, or via the Eversports App on your smartphone. In the schedule, look up the class you want to join, click on Join Now, and proceed. If you have a valid pass the class will automatically be deducted from your pass. If you need to purchase a new subscription, you can choose from the various options available. Feel free to leave a review as well.

Looking forward to seeing you again soon in an online class.

Join the Brussels Yoga Mala 2016

BYM_2011Join the Brussels’ yoga community in celebrating the Summer on Sunday 5 June 2016 with the 7th edition of the Brussels Yoga Mala!

What is the Yoga Mala? – it’s a yoga event for all the family taking place in Brussels around the time of the summer solstice where we celebrate life and practice 108 Sun Salutations, kids have their own yoga party, and we raise money for charity. This year we are supporting the Community Support for Refugees group.

108 sun salutations? you must be joking, I can only do 8 before I need a rest in savasana! – no problem, whether you do 8 or 108 we will complete the mala together, the last 6 Malas have seen over 100 women, men and children coming together to make one sunny circle 🙂

There will be at least 10 yoga teachers leading the rounds, including me.

Where is it and when? – it’s on the mezzanine in Autoworld Museum, Park Cinquantenaire in Brussels, and we start at 10h30 on Sunday 5 June. We usually finish around midday.

How do I register and how much is it? – to register please send an email, and make a payment of €2 entrance fee plus a donation for charity (we suggest €10 put please give what you can) into the bank account: BE85 0357 3874 8506.

This is a great idea, how can I help? – this event is run entirely by volunteers so if you’d like to volunteer to help in some way please let us know on the same email address.

Order your vegan vitamin B12 via Ambika

If you interested in your health, I hope you know that very Low Vitamin B12 intake can cause anaemia and nervous system damage. The only reliable animal-free sources of B12 are foods fortified with B12 and B12 supplements. Vitamin B12, whether in supplements, fortified foods, or animal products, comes through micro-organisms. Achieving an adequate B12 intake is easily achieved through taking one B12 supplement a day providing at least 10 micrograms. Vegans need to take B12 via fortified foods and/ or supplements. But even vegetarians or omnivores (especially if you are over 50 years old), might need supplements. I recommend visiting your personal physician at least once a year to do a thorough blood test to see if there are any shortages of vitamins or other nutrients.

I’m going to order vitamin B12 from the Vegan Society. If you are interested, please place your order here before 31/08/2015. You will be able to pick up your order in Ghent or in Brussels at a central place (date and place communicated upon order confirmation).

This supplement comes in tubs of 90 or 180 tablets which is a THREE or SIX month supply for adults.

Sivananda yoga retreat this summer

Om yogis,

I feel lucky & blessed as this summer I’ll be spending 5 weeks in the lovely & secluded Sivananda  Ashram in Val Morin, Canada (Quebec). It’ll be my second time there after last year’s TTC experience. I’m very excited to go back and am much looking forward to the meditative flow, early morning meditation, asana classes in the sun on the platform, learning and sharing yoga knowledge, eating delicious sattvic food, quiet walks, chanting, meeting other yogis, sleeping in a tent (challenge!), being in nature, and much more good things. As my objective is to disconnect from the internet & connect to myself and to the yoga teachings, I won’t be sharing any posts, recipes, quotes or a newsletter from Ambika Yoga during this time.

Please continue your own practice, a little bit of Pranayama and yoga Asanas every day makes a world of difference to your day. Make it part of your daily routine to practice, you’ll see it’ll become easier every day to get up early and practice. Little by little you’ll make your yoga routine longer, you can add some (silent) meditation, some chanting, whatever works for you.

Looking forward to sharing some of my ashram experiences in my next newsletter (somewhere in August probably).

Om Shanti

Healthy, Harmonious and Happy life yoga news

Many people are in search of tips and tricks to live a Healthy, Harmonious and Happy life (or triple-H-life). Yoga offers so many, if not ALL, answers to achieve these objectives.

Through the years on my quest to the triple-H-life, I’ve picked up quite some interesting tools, information & practices and I’m still learning new ones every day! My objective is to share what I’ve learnt with people that are interested to progress on the yoga path or that strive simply to add an ounce of triple-H to their lives.

If you want to join me in the triple-H-life journey, you can register to the Ambika Yoga newsletter that will occur on a regular basis (most likely bi-weekly or monthly).

Navaratri festival from 15-23 October

Navaratri is one of the most celebrated festivals of India. Nav translates to ‘Nine’ and Ratri to ‘Night’ therefore meaning nine nights that are dedicated to the Divine Mother in all of her forms. The Mother Goddess is said to appear in 9 forms, and each one is worshiped for a day. These nine forms signify various traits that the goddess influences us with. The Devi Mahatmya and other texts invoking the Goddess who vanquished demons are cited. The first three days of Navaratri are dedicated to Goddess Durga (Warrior Goddess) dressed in red and mounted on a lion. Her various incarnations- Kumari, Parvati and Kali are worshipped during these days. They represent the three classes of womanhood that include the child, young girl and mature woman. Next three days are dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi ( Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity), dressed in gold and mounted on an owl and finally, last three days are dedicated to Goddess Sarasvati (Goddess of Knowledge), dressed in milky white and mounted on a pure white swan. Ashtami, Navami and Vijaydasami which is on the 9th day are celebrated as Sarasvati Puja in which books are worshipped. The books are placed for Puja on the Ashtami day in own houses, traditional nursery schools, or in temples. On Vijayadasami day, the books are ceremoniously taken out for reading and writing after worshipping Sarasvati. Vijaydasami day is considered auspicious for initiating the children into writing and reading, which is called Vidyarambham. Tens of thousands of children are initiated into the world of letters on this day.
